Gulf Island Kayak Expedition
The Experience
The Gulf Island Kayak Expedition is a 5 day paddling trip through British Columbia’s beautiful Gulf Islands. We will start from Silva Bay on Gabriola Island, weaving our way south through the many island communities, camping on remote beaches, enjoying the wildlife and the amazing sandstone formations along the way. We will finish our trip by paddling across to Salt Spring Island, to finish in Ganges harbour where we will enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants or pubs along the waterfront before loading the kayaks onto our van and getting onto the ferry back to Vancouver Island. This is the perfect trip for anyone wanting the explore the relaxing island communities, expand their kayaking skills, and enjoy the varied wildlife with our naturalist guides.

Day 0 is the first day you meet the guides and the rest of your group. You will meet your group at Mad Rona Coffee Shop at 3 pm, where you can discuss details and plan your meals. After the who group will walk across the road to the Village Food Market o do the trip shopping.
You will need to find your own accommodation on Gabriola Island this night. There are many options on the island from Hotls, to B&B’s, to Campgrounds. Feel free to ask us about recomendations or for hgelp booking.
Find your own this night.
Our first day will see us packing our kayaks and departing Silva Bay this morning. We will paddle through the Flat Top Islands, past Drumbeg Park, and through Gabriola Passage. The morning departure time from Silva Bay may be dependent on the currents and tides in Gabriola Passage. Once through the passage we will continue south along the Western side of Valdes Island to Blackberry Point, one of my all-time favorite campsites in this area.
Today we will paddle along the Southern end of Vales Island where we will cross to Reid Island and the Secretary Islands. We may stop at one of these lovely islands for lunch or a quick break. After our break we will paddle a little further weaving through the small island chain to Wallace Island. Wallace is a very popular park in the summer month for both kayakers and boaters. The entire island is a provincial park, there is a network of walking / hiking trail throughout the island, it offers many nice campsites and is a popular destination for kayakers and boaters during the summer months.
Day three will see us paddling from Wallace across Trincomali Channel to Galiano Island. We will paddle along the tall sandstone cliffs of Galiano Island to Montague Harobur. Montague harbour has an excellent park and campground and very nice beaches.
Day four will see us starting out past parker and Julia Islands, then following the Southwestern edge of Galiano Island where we will start our crossing to Prevost Island. Prevost is one of the islands that is now part of the new Gulf Island National Park. The campsites are well maintained and all the facilities are new. Everyone who stays here really enjoys it! One of my favorites!
From Prevost Island we will paddle the short crossing to Saltspring Island, where we will paddle along the lovely coast line and into Ganges Harbour where we will finish our trip and meet the Kayak Van for transport back to Gabriola Island. We will have lunch in one of the many nice restaurants or pubs along the waterfront before going to catch the ferry back to Vancouver Island. We can drop you off at the Nanaimo or the ferry terminal from Saltspring to Tsawwassen if you need to start your journey home on this day.
If you are staying on Saltspring Island, Gabriola Island, or Nanaimo on Vancouver Island this night, instead of starting your journey home, you will need to arrange your own accommodation. Please ask us for recommendations or to assist in booking you stay this night.
